What led you to choose your current area of study, and why the U of A for your studies?
I was born and raised in close proximity to nature, with the sea as a constant backdrop to my upbringing. This environment instilled in me a deep passion for preserving and safeguarding the natural world, which ultimately drove my decision to delve into the field of environmental engineering.
When it came to selecting the ideal institution for my studies, the University of Alberta emerged as the clear frontrunner. It boasts one of the finest environmental engineering programs globally, offering unparalleled opportunities for academic growth and personal development. This, combined with its esteemed reputation, solidified my choice in pursuing my education at U of A.
What is one of your favourite memories from your time at the U of A?
While my time at the U of A has been filled with countless cherished memories, the moments that stand out the most are the ones I've shared with my lab mates. The laughter and shared experiences we've had in the lab have a special place in my heart, and they never fail to bring a smile to my face.
Tell us about your favourite professor and/or class.
My favorite professor at the U of A is undoubtedly my supervisor, Bipro Dhar. His unwavering support and guidance have played a critical role in my academic and personal growth during my time here. Professor Dhar consistently went above and beyond, providing assistance not only in my studies but also offering emotional support during challenging moments. His presence during the tough times was truly heartwarming, and I'm immensely grateful for his mentorship and friendship.
Did you face any significant obstacles or challenges during your program?
Indeed, like many students navigating their studies during the COVID-19 period, I encountered a significant challenge. I vividly recall a moment when the university had to close, forcing me to abruptly halt an experiment I had dedicated over two months to. It was a disheartening setback.
In response, I cultivated patience, understanding that the circumstances were beyond anyone's control. This period taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience, skills that I believe will serve me well in my academic and professional journey.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Persistently dedicate yourself to your studies, and remember not to be disheartened by challenges. Your moment of success will undoubtedly arrive.
How do you plan on celebrating convocation?
I'm looking forward to celebrating convocation alongside my wife and close friends.
What's next after graduation?
I am excited to embark on the next chapter of my journey as a process engineer with a prestigious consulting company, where I can leverage my technical skills and passion for sustainability to make a positive impact on society.
