The China Institute of the University of Alberta will host its 9th annual "National Forum on Canada-China Investment and Trade" on May 24, 2019. The theme this year is "Navigating Economic Engagement through Troubled Waters." This one-day event will be held at the Omni, King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto. The Forum will bring together officials with responsibility for diplomatic and trade policies, industry leaders, and leading experts on trade and investment issues.

With evolving diplomatic issues in recent months, Canada-China relations have entered into uncharted waters of growing tension and complexity. While the two countries continue to maintain extensive and wide-ranging business and people-to-people ties, many in Canada have begun to wonder if political uncertainties will cool trade and investment and what can be done to mitigate the difficulties posed for business. The Forum this year aims to shed light on both the current challenges as well as the future course of Canada-China economic relations by focusing on the following topics:

- Assessing Current State of Canada-China Relations - Are We in a Deep Freeze?
- Managing Economic Engagement in the Face of Cooling Relations
- Between the Two Global Powers - Implications of USMCA & Trade Frictions between U.S. and China
- Managing Opportunities and Risks - Technology and Security
