Classroom Volunteers
Classroom Mentors
Who are we looking for?
- Anyone who enjoys working with grades three-nine students
- Volunteers from diverse groups, as well as volunteers who participate in diverse activities and groups on campus. Our goal is for U School students to see themselves on campus- it helps when someone who looks like them is part of their experience!
What to expect:
- Participate in the session’s activity
- Enter data and prepare classroom for next day
- Respond to journal entries at the end of the day
- Support and encourage students in their journaling
- Share your experiences of university with the students
- Engage with the students in a friendly and welcoming manner
- Supervise students as we travel across campus to ensure that no one wanders off
How often can you volunteer and when are the shifts?
- Morning shifts are 9:30-12, Monday to Friday
- Afternoon shifts are 12-2:30, Monday to Friday, excluding Thursdays
Interviewees
Who are we are looking for?:
- Friendly people from our campus community who want to help students connect with the University of Alberta.
- People who are looking to take part in U School but only have an hour to spare.
What to expect:
- Interview shifts are from 12:25-1:30 on Tuesdays or Fridays
- Students will ask you about what you do on campus, how you got to where you are today, why you came to the U of A and much, much more. Students then tell their classmates all about you.
- Students can be shy so we recommend you have some questions ready to ask them.
- You will be presented to the rest of the class by the students who interviewed you.
