Release of the new issue of EWJUS

Dr. Svitlana (Lana) Krys, the editor-in-chief of East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies (EWJUS) and Kule Chair in Ukrainian Studies at MacEwan University, is pleased to announce the release of EWJUS's latest issue, vol. 7, no. 2 (fall 2020).
Vol. 7, no. 2, 2020 opens with a special thematic section titled “Trauma in Social and Cultural Contexts,” which features three articles that collectively and comparatively tackle the traumatic events of the Holodomor (the 1932-33 Famine in Ukraine), An Gorta Mór (the Irish Famine of 1845-52), and the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear disaster. Four regular articles that follow address a variety of topics: (i) a study of the Kyivan myth of the “Rus' Land” and its absence from the Bohdan Khmel'nyts'kyi-era documents, (ii) the development of Ukrainian popular science in Habsburg Galicia in 1900-14, (iii) reforms in Ukrainian higher education between 1996 and 2014 due to the adoption of the Bologna Process, and (iv) a study of the way young Ukrainians conceptualize their national community in the post-Euromaidan era.
The issue also features a report from the field about language use in the Ukrainian town of Ripky and introduces a new section “Reflections on the Past.” The book review section at the end offers reviews of recent publications in the field of Ukrainian studies. Dr. Krys is grateful to EWJUS’s book review editor Tania Stech for her continuing contribution to the diversity and quality of the book reviews that EWJUS publishes.
Launched by the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies in 2014, EWJUS is a peer-reviewed, open-access, online journal. All visitors to the site have immediate and free access. Readers are welcome to register with EWJUS in order to receive future updates.
