Maria Mayerchyk and Olga Plakhotnik | Ukrainian Feminisms and the Issue of Coloniality

How do feminist imaginaries in post-Maidan Ukraine address the issue of coloniality? The presenters will analyze different answers to this question and offer broader theorizations of contemporary East European feminisms at the intersection of postsocialism, (post)colonialism, and circuits of global imperial power.
Dr. Maria Mayerchyk is a Senior Research Scholar at the Institute of Ethnology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Lviv. Her scholarly interests are in the areas of folklore, diaspora, sexuality, feminism, and decolonial epistemologies of the European periphery. Dr. Mayerchyk is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the journal Feminist Critique: East European Journal of Feminist and Queer Studies.
Dr. Olga Plakhotnik is a Bayduza Post-doctoral Fellow at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. Her research interests include sexual citizenship, feminist and LGBT+ activism, borderlands and belonging, and anti-oppressive pedagogies. Dr. Plakhotnik is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the journal Feminist Critique: East European Journal of Feminist and Queer Studies.
