Message from ADI TWG Chair
Since its inception in 2018, Alberta Diabetes Institute Trainee Working Group members have taken a much larger role in contributing to the success of the ADI Research Day. In addition to the conventional tasks of selecting the keynote speaker, volunteering as judges, assisting in the operations, and providing social media coverage, the ADI TWG were further tasked with transforming ADI Research Day 2020 and 2021 from an in-person single day event into a virtual two day conference. This led to the need for greater vigilance with zoom host support, the creation of a new e-scoring system, ADI Twitter Takeover and functioning as junior judges for the event - all of which were executed flawlessly.
Veteran as well as newly recruited TWG members ensured the success of the our virtual ADI Research Day, allowing us to continue sharing and appreciating novel scientific research in the field of diabetes. ADI TWG members, like the Alberta Diabetes Institute, are from different faculties, laboratories, and science backgrounds and it is this diversity of its membership that make it successful.
If you would like to join this dynamic group of trainees or want to find out more about the ADI TWG, email Jenneffer Rayane Braga Tibaes (ADI TWG Secretary) at bragatib@ualberta.ca.

About
In 2018, a call was sent out to ADI trainees requesting their interest in forming an ADI Trainee Working Group (TWG) that could better represent their needs during their time at the ADI. The response was overwhelming, and a short time later an initial group instituted a Terms of Reference and nominated an Executive body of the ADI TWG. This is a significant undertaking for our trainees due to the diverse faculties that make up the ADI; however, the ADI TWG plans to host events and functions that will unify all trainees within the ADI, allowing for more collaboration and student networking.
From hosting various social events, to helping organize the ADI Annual Research Day event, the ADI TWG is already an active and vibrant part of the ADI. The ADI administration will continue working with the ADI TWG to provide ongoing support for summer students, undergraduate/graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, including career development and additional networking opportunities.
