Edmonton Protocol 25th Anniversary Celebration
In 2000, the publication of the Edmonton Protocol (EP) provided proof of concept for a treatment for diabetes beyond insulin replacement. This remarkable milestone helped achieve what was thought to be impossible: Individuals living with Type 1 diabetes becoming insulin-independent. For those with hard-to-control diabetes, this medical breakthrough dramatically improved their quality of life, and the EP became the world’s largest islet transplant program, further establishing the University of Alberta as a leading center for diabetes research.
Join the Alberta Diabetes Institute in partnership with the Gairdner Foundation to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the landmark Edmonton Protocol publication.
