Part 1: PD Requirement Orientation

Bright minds are found in all corners of the workforce. And some graduate students will land jobs that haven't even been invented yet. The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) knows this and, in 2016, the University of Alberta became the first Canadian post-secondary institution to prioritize professional development with the Professional Development (PD) Requirement.

This session will introduce you to the requirements, including the Individual Development Plan (IDP) and eight hours of PD activities.

This session addresses introductory questions:

  • Why do I have to complete a PD requirement?
  • How do I create my IDP and what are the steps involved?
  • What counts towards the eight hours of PD activities and how do I find these activities?
  • What role do departments have in the PD requirement?
  • What support and resources are available to me as I complete my PD requirement?
