Annual Toby & Saul Reichert Holocaust Lecture

 The Holocaust as World History

Professor Doris L. Bergen, Chancellor Rose and Ray Wolfe Professor of Holocaust Studies in the Department of History and the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto.

4:30 pm MST
Telus Centre Auditorium (150)

This talk explores the global dimensions of the Holocaust from multiple angles. Jewish victims' accounts told of a world of misery. German perpetrators dreamed of world domination, and the war and genocide they unleashed sent refugees all over the globe, where they encountered Indigenous peoples, colonizers and colonized, and competing systems of power. The conviction that the Holocaust has universal meaning is widely shared, but agreement on just what it means remains contested.
