University Health Centre

Information updated March 5 at 4:00 p.m.: Please be aware that an unplanned water pipe issue has resulted in the University Health Centre having to temporarily close until repairs can be completed. At the present time the Centre is expected to resume services on Wednesday, March 6, at 8:30 AM. Please check back here for updates. Note that the UHC phone lines will remain open at 780-492-2612.

Winter Closure

The University Health Centre will close at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 24. We will be closed from Dec. 25 - Jan. 1 and will reopen on Jan. 2. During this time hws@ualberta.ca will not be monitored. For patients needing a medication refill during the closure, consult with your pharmacist.

Urgent + Crisis Options

If you need immediate support, there are services available 24/7. If there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, contact 911. Need help now.

The University Health Centre is open and here to support your health care journey.

Whether you are feeling unwell or it's time for a regular check-up, the physicians and nurses at the University Health Centre are here to help and to answer any questions you have relating to your health care journey. As a member of the UAlberta community, you are welcome to use the UHC as your primary health care facility for the duration of your time at the university. The UHC is open to all staff members, students, and family of students (spouses and children). Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate family of staff.


Accessing the Clinic:

New patients to UHC can drop in to see any available physician. Existing patients can call to book an in-person appointment at 780-492-2612 or book through Medeo online booking. All patients can drop in to the clinic to see a physician during office hours. You will be asked to show proof of your health care coverage and your ONECard or photo ID at every visit to the University Health Centre.

Please arrive as early as you can to see a physician, we may not be able to accommodate drop-ins later in the day. In the event that we are unable to accommodate you, we ask that you return the next business day as we will reopen drop-in availability at 8:15 am. 


Our Services

We offer an extensive list of services to meet your health care needs. Our services are available to all staff members, students, and spouses and children of students.

Phone Calls:

We are transitioning to a new phone system and we apologize for any issues patients might experience as we work out things. 

  • Phone lines are closed for lunch between noon and 1:00 pm.
  • If you have general clinic questions, please email hws@ualberta.ca.
  • UHC office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m, any messages received after this time will be reviewed the following business day.

Medeo Online Appointment Booking

The Medeo health care portal provides healthcare professionals with the ability to send secure messages to patients and allows patients to book appointments with healthcare providers. Learn more. You can only use Medeo to book an appointment if you have already dropped in to see a physician at the UHC. 

For current patients registered for Medeo

If you have already signed up for Medeo (online booking) at UHC, you can log into your account directly to request an in-person appointment with one of our physicians. You can find the link to the Medeo website here.

For new patients or those not registered in Medeo
If you are a new patient to our clinic, please drop in for your initial visit with your ONECard and provincial health care card to see a physician. An invitation to use Medeo Online booking can be arranged at that time. Meet and greet visits are not booked with the physicians at UHC.
