The Graduate Students' Association (GSA)
What is the GSA?
The GSA is a student-run, not-for-profit organization, and the official representative body for all Masters and PhD students at the University of Alberta. The GSA represents over 7,000 graduate students for the University of Alberta's Board of Governors and other decision-making bodies.
What does the GSA do?
The GSA is a member of provincial and federal student lobbying organizations and through these partners, the GSA advocates for the best possible graduate school experience among students in Alberta and Canada and focuses on issues such as:
- Academic programs and research
- Tuition costs and scholarships
- Intellectual property rights
- Academic integrity
- Graduate student housing and student residence
- The importance of the arts
- Campus recreation facilities
Why you should get involved?
The graduate student experience is so much more than academic research and writing! The GSA is always looking for volunteers to sit on its many committees or to help with events. It's a great way to meet new people and to get involved on campus.
The GSA also confirms volunteer participation for reference checks and produces letters of reference for its most involved volunteers.

- We collect basic information from each of our volunteers, including contact information and a 100-150 word biography.
