OSCE Workshops
You must be eligible to take the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) to participate in the OSCE Workshop
The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is pleased to offer continuing education for internationally educated physical therapists (IEPTs). Our Faculty has both a Canadian accredited MScPT professional entry-level program and a Graduate Certificate in Bridging to Canadian PT Practice. In addition, we have been helping IEPTs with both written and clinical examination preparation through workshops for several years.
Our instructors have clinical content expertise as well as expertise in teaching and examining. With many years of IEPT educational programming in our faculty, we are very knowledgeable about the learning needs of IEPTs. Our programming is focused on facilitating the professional growth of IEPTs who are planning to work in Canada.
The workshop will NOT provide "bridging" or a content review of physical therapy practice in Canada, but rather strategies for any OSCE exam. Attendees will develop skills and strategies for participating in OSCE examinations.

Michelle Barnes graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002 with her Physiotherapy Degree. Prior to that, she completed degrees in Education, and Physical Education. She started her career in private practice, working in a clinic in suburban Edmonton for 9 years before taking a position at the Glenrose in 2011. While at the Glenrose, Michelle had the chance to switch from treating the 'typical' musculoskeletal injuries seen in private practice, to treating an outpatient neurology population including people who had experienced a stroke or traumatic brain injury.
While at the Glenrose she also had the opportunity to work as the site Clinical Coordinator for Student Placements, providing student orientation and generally helping to arrange clinical placements. She was also a teaching assistant in the University's spinal mobilization class, an opportunity that eventually led her back to the University of Alberta in 2013 when she took on the role of running the student physiotherapy clinic. And then the Alberta Internationally-Educated Physiotherapist Bridging Program (now the Certificate Program) opportunity came along. Michelle's role is to develop and instruct the Saturday labs, coordinate the mentorship component of the bridging program, and serve as the clinical placement coordinator.
Barbara Norton has over 30 years of clinical, leadership and teaching experience. Clinical work included both hospital based and private practice experience as well as management and professional practice leadership. 17 years of educational experience includes designing curriculum, evaluation and teaching in both the MScPT and bridging programs at the U of A in the areas of foundations of physiotherapy practice, communication, ethics and professional practice
Bernadette Martin is a long time physical therapist who has been with the Faculty of Rehab Med since 2005. Berni was lead for the MScPT Program from 2007-2016 and has been the Academic Advisor for the FRM Bridging Program and Certificate since its inception. Berni brings experience in curriculum, course and assessment development.

NO refunds will be provided once a participant has completed an OSCE.
