Maternal health and mortality improve if women gain access to family planning and skilled birth services.

According to the World Health Organization, women in developed countries live 24 years longer than those in developing nations. Some issues facing women today are maternal health and interpersonal violence. Every two minutes, a woman dies of complications in pregnancy or childbirth somewhere around the world. And 30 per cent of women in Canada have experienced violence by a partner.

We have come a long way, but there is still a long way to go.

Students and faculty at the School of Public Health are leading and conducting innovative research on the health and social issues that affect women, both in Canada and around the world.
