Medical Physics
The Department of Medical Physics at the Cross Cancer Institute offers three residency programs, two of which are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP) and a third which provides high quality training in a field that is outside the scope of CAMPEP. In 2005, the University of Alberta became the first institution in the world to have 3 education programs accredited by CAMPEP (2 residency programs and 1 graduate program).
Medical Physics Residents may pursue training in:
- Radiation Oncology Physics (CAMPEP accredited)
- Imaging Physics (CAMPEP accredited) which includes residencies in:
- Nuclear medicine physics
- Diagnostic radiological physics
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics (outside the scope of CAMPEP)
Starting in 2012, everyone who writes their exam to become professionally certified as a Medical Physicist by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine must be a graduate of a CAMPEP accredited graduate program or residency program.
