Multi-User Facilities
Our Department is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art research core facilities which are available to both onsite and offsite users upon request. The equipment is managed and operated by highly qualified research staff. For more information, please visit the individual facility web sites or contact one of the staff members listed on each site.
The Facility is a multi-user resource that enables researchers in the Department of Oncology to implement cellular imaging techniques in their research.
The Facility is available to other departments at the university, as well as to public and private sectors outside of the Cross Cancer Institute, on availability and fee-per-service basis.
The Facility provides advanced light microscopy services and transmission electron microscopy services. The following pages provide descriptions of the Facility's hardware, services and activities. The Facility is located in Room 2322 on the second floor of the Cross Cancer Institute.
The Image-Guided Adaptive Radiotherapy (IGAR) program incorporates one of the world's first MR guided Linac systems, a very-high field (3T) whole body MR Imaging and Spectroscopy System for human studies, an animal 9.4T MR Imaging and Spectroscopy System, an image-fusion laboratory, and the computer laboratories.
Mainly used by Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics but open to all other departments at the CCI (Cancer Imaging, Experimental Oncology, Medical Oncology). If appropriate, user fees will be charged to investigators, especially if the investigator has research funds, in order to help support operating costs.
Alberta Cancer Research Biorepository Bank
The Alberta Cancer Research Biorepository (ACRB) offers biosample collection, biostorage and bioprocessing solutions for cancer research. The Open Access Biobank holds donations from over 23,000 participants representing 40 different cancer types. The samples are available as liquid nitrogen frozen tissue, paraffin embedded (FFPE) sections and blood fractions. Clinical data is available for all samples and extensive clinical annotation exists for some tumor types. The ACRB will partner with investigators to collect the required samples if they are not available in our Open Access Collection.
