Clinical Research Fellowships in Radiation Oncology
Applications are invited from trainees who will complete their specialist training in Radiation Oncology by June 30, 2025, for a one-year fellowship commencing July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026.
Location
The Cross Cancer Institute, affiliated with the University of Alberta, is a free-standing comprehensive cancer centre, and tertiary referral centre for Northern Alberta. The Division of Radiation Oncology serves a population base of 1.5 million people and treats over 4000 patients per year. We have capability for stereotactic body radiotherapy, gamma knife, RapidArc IMRT, as well as low-dose rate, high-dose rate, ocular brachytherapy and orthovoltage RT.
Training Opportunity
The fellowship is designed for those interested in participating in state-of-the-art image-guided radiotherapy and is highly customizable based on individual interests. The fellowship would include a mix of both clinical experience and research. Specialized areas of radiation oncology such as SBRT, Gamma Knife, or specific training in areas such as Head and Neck cancer, Gynecologic malignancies, or brachytherapy, can be an integral part of the fellowship experience.
Fellows can participate in the Linac-MR program, including conception and development of clinical trials and recruitment of patients. Our group developed the first prototype in the world for Linac-MR and a fully operational clinical unit is now in its final stages of completion, which has distinct advantages over other commercially available systems. The Linac-MR will be available for imaging and treatment during the fellows training. Fellows can also participate in many other ongoing research opportunities for results to be published in peer-reviewed meetings and publications.
Eligibility
Applicants must be physicians who will complete specialist training in Radiation Oncology by June 30, 2025, or who have completed training within the last three years. Fellows must be competent in spoken and written English. If medical training was in a language other than English, evidence of successful achievement of the Alberta College of Physicians’ requirements on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (ILETS) or Occupational English Test (OET) must be provided with the application package. Candidates must be eligible for educational licensure in the Province of Alberta. Remuneration will commensurate with post-graduate scales defined by the University of Alberta.
