Jananee Rasiah, PhD Candidate | MN, RN, PMD:NP Jananee is a doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. She has over 15 years of combined experience in direct clinical practice, administration, post-secondary education, and patient-oriented research. Her research experience and interest are in the area of frailty and aging, patient engagement, and patient and family-centred care. For her doctoral research, she is examining the relationship between hospitalization episodes and frailty to inform care practices of community dwelling older adults who receive home care. She hopes to affect change at both health systems and policy levels in effective, sustainable, and meaningful ways. She is also a Canadian Frailty Network Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellow (2019-2020) and looks forward to learning and advancing research in the area of frailty with citizen members, clinicians, and administrators. |

Tatiana Penconek, PhD Student | RN, BScN, MN Tatiana is a doctoral student in the PhD program in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Tatiana has experience in medical-surgical nursing in the acute care setting as well as a nurse educator and clinical instructor in undergraduate nursing programs. Tatiana is committed to nursing education and her research focus is on incivility in nursing education. Tatiana is ultimately interested in the creation and maintenance of civil teaching and learning environments for nurses and nursing students. She aims to examine the individual, group, organizational, and systemic variables affecting incivility in nursing education. Tatiana participates in research projects in the CLEAR Outcomes Research program. |

Patrick Chiu, PhD Candidate | RN, BScN, MPH Patrick is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. He has practiced in a variety of areas including direct care, policy, advocacy, nursing regulation and professional practice. He has spent the last few years working in professional associations, government and a regulatory college. His experience and interest in policy advocacy led him to pursue his doctorate to better examine how nursing organizations can be strengthened to transform health systems and shape public policy. |

Shovana Shrestha, PhD Student | RN, BScN, MScN Shovana is a doctoral student in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. She has six years of experience working as a nurse educator, coordinator, and clinical supervisor for an undergraduate nursing program in Nepal. Her zeal to improve nursing education, practice, and research, especially in the field of gerontology, motivated her to pursue doctoral study. Shovana is deeply concerned about the state of pain management practices in nursing home settings and is determined to improve it through her research. Her doctoral research is centered around effective knowledge translation strategies to improve pain management practices in nursing home settings. Currently, she is working as a research assistant in the “Quality of life in times of COVID-19 – the QoL-COV” study under the supervision of Dr. Matthias Hoben. |

Rashmi Devkota, PhD Student | RN, BScN, MScN Rashmi is a doctoral student in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Before coming to the University of Alberta, Rashmi worked as a nursing lecturer in a medical college in Nepal. Driven by improving the quality of care for older adults, her research goals focus on meeting older adults' social support needs. Rashmi is assisting on numerous research projects with her co-supervisor Dr. Matthias Hoben (e.g., a systematic review on the DEMQOL system – a set of tools to assess the quality of life in people with dementia, a realist review on intended and unintended effects of aging in pace policies, or quality of life-COVID study). In her doctoral research, she explores how and why the social support needs of older adults are met or unmet. As she steps ahead in her Ph.D. journey, Rashmi hopes to have the opportunity to learn, unlearn, and relearn. |

Claire Su-Yeon Park, PhD Student | RN, MsN, Nursing Decision Scientist Claire is a PhD student in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Her vision and mission are to mitigate the global nursing shortages by presenting Optimal Safe Nurse Staffing Levels maximizing quality of care outcomes (patient outcomes) relative to cost (nurses’ labor costs) in the continuum of changes. She is currently part of an interdisciplinary team, so-called “SECURE Team For You” (SweEt spot ConsUlting REsearch Team For the next generation, You), in which she is leading the development of Park’s Optimized Nurse Staffing (Sweet Spot) Theory-driven Artificial Intelligence algorithms. She also serves as the CEO of the Center for Econometric Optimization in the Nursing Workforce, Seoul, Korea, while working as (a) a translator for Korean poet Seok-Nam Jang’s Lyric Poems and Prose in collaboration with American poet Paulette E. Bane, MA, MFA and (b) an academic publication trainer and consultant at Cactus Communications Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, India and Cactus Communications Korea Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea. |
