Program Requirements
The Honors and Majors programs in Neuroscience will introduce students to the major areas of neuroscience through a multidisciplinary approach. The Honors program also provides an opportunity for each student to explore a research interest in their final year. Neuroscience students can enter the program out of high school or transfer from another university or program.
Students in Neuroscience will have the opportunity to focus in their subject specific course on brain structure and function, with lectures emphasizing different aspects of cellular, molecular, systems and cognitive neuroscience.
Fourth-year Honors students in Neuroscience apply their classroom knowledge and gain hands-on research experience in a neuroscience laboratory of their choice during individual study projects with an NMHI faculty member. Two streams are available to Honors students: Stream A (NEURO 450, NEURO 451, and/or NEURO 452) and Stream B (NEURO 498/499).
Students planning to enter Research Stream B (Undergraduate Honors Thesis in Neuroscience) are encouraged to take a *3 unit research project course in their third year of study (i.e. enrol in either NEURO 451 or NEURO 452) to gain experience in research prior to their fourth year. Note, however, that only *3 units in research credits above the *12 from NEURO 498/499 in Research Stream B are permitted. Students in Research Stream B are not permitted to take NEURO 450.
Academic Standings *Honors students are required to maintain a 3.3 GPA in all fours years of the program.
