About Us
The Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) is a multi-faculty, interdisciplinary, teaching and research institute located at the University of Alberta. The NMHI is home to over 170 scientists and clinicians, spanning across all areas of neuroscience and mental health. Our scientists and clinicians are dedicated to discovering how the brain nervous system function, determining the basis for disease, and translating discoveries into improved prevention and treatment options for individuals impacted by neurological and mental health related diseases and disorders.
NMHI members are experts in a variety of fields, including our priority areas:
- Brain and Spinal Cord Injury and Restoring Movement
- Dementia and Related Neurodegenerative Disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Chronic pain and addiction
- Depression and other mental health disorders
Through collaborative efforts, researchers at the NMHI will further our understanding of these complex and devastating neurological diseases and disorders.
