His expertise makes him one of the best mineralogist in Canada." - Mary-Jane Turnell, Assistant Chair (Administration), Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
Andrew Locock has been a longtime advocate for the University of Alberta Museums. He served as the Collections Manager for the Mineralogy/Petrology, Meteorite, Drill Core, Invertebrate Paleontology, and Trace Fossil collections for more than seven years between 2006 and 2013. During his tenure, he stewarded the Mineralogy/Petrology and Paleontology Museums, facilitating access for thousands of university students, school-aged children, researchers, and the community.
The diversity of the collections is substantial in both type and philosophy; Andrew developed widely-endorsed administrative policies to effectively and efficiently navigate these complexities. Over the years, Andrew oversaw the upgrading of many existing exhibits as well as the design of numerous new installations in the two museums. He was a major figure in the development and delivery of outreach programs for the associated collections-most notably, the ever-popular annual Science Sunday event-providing a richer experience for museum visitors. In addition to his work as Collections Manager, Andrew has a level of expertise in mineralogy that makes him one of the best mineralogists in Canada.
