CLC Brown Bag Lunch Reading with Timothy Taylor

Timothy Taylor‘s first novel, Stanley Park (Knopf Canada, 2001), was an immediate bestseller and a critical success. Taylor has since published a collection of short fiction, Silent Cruise (Knopf Canada, 2002), and a novel, Story House (Knopf Canada, 2006). His most recent novel is The Blue Light Project (Knopf Canada, 2011). Among his literary awards, Taylor lists the 2000 Journey Prize and nominations for the 2002 BC Book Awards, and the 2001 Giller Prize (shortlisted). Taylor’s work has been chosen as the 2003 One Book, One Vancouver Title, and named a finalist in CBC’s 2007 Canada Reads competition. Taylor is also a contributing editor to the Canadian narrative journalism magazine, Eighteen Bridges.

Jocelyn Brown‘s recent books — One Good Outfit (Mercury, 2000) and Mitochondrial Curiosities of Marcels 1-19 (Coach House, 2009) — blend brilliant wit, humour and good storytelling. Mitochondrial Curiosities, a young adult novel, has been enthusiastically reviewed across Canada and the United States, and hailed as “astonishing” and “wildly inventive.” Her articles and short stories have also been widely published, with the short story “Miss Canada” winning the Journey Prize in 2002, and she continues to work on shorter pieces, including a recent article for the Canadian narrative journalism magazine, Eighteen Bridges. Brown has begun work on a new novel, Mistakes and Improvements.

Marilyn Dumont‘s first poetry collection, A Really Good Brown Girl (Brick Books, 1996), now in its 11th printing, won the 1997 Gerald Lampert Memorial Award and remains a common course text in secondary and post-secondary institutions across Canada and the United States. Subsequent collections, namely Green Girl Dreams Mountains (Oolichan Books, 2001) and That Tongued Belonging (Kegedonce Press, 2007), have earned her the 2001 Stephan G. Stephansson Award, the 2007 Anshohk Aboriginal Poetry Book of the Year, and the 2007 McNally Robinson Aboriginal Book of the Year. Dumont recently published her first novella, entitled Stray Dog Moccasins (Ningwakwe Learning Press, 2009). She was the 2000-2001 U of A Writer-in-Residence in the Department of English and Film Studies.
