Degree Requirements
This information will help you plan your program. Consult the Linguistics Section of the University Calendar for the most up-to-date information regarding course requirements. Course descriptions can also be found in the Course Listings section of the Calendar.
Requirements for a BA in Linguistics*
A major must include minimum of 30 credits, to a maximum of 48 credits at the senior level.
Students majoring in Linguistics must include the following courses in their program:
- LING 101 - Introduction to Linguistics
- LING 102 - Linguistics in Action
- LING 204 - Syntax of the World's Languages
- LING 205 - Phonetics
- LING 308 - Morphology
- LING 309 - Syntax
- LING 310 - Phonology
Credits
- ★3 at the 3xx level
- ★6 at the 4xx - or 5xx-level

Requirements for a Minor in Linguistics*
The following courses are required:
- LING 101 - Introduction to Linguistics Analysis
- LING 102 - Linguistics in Action
- LING 204 - Syntax of the World's Languages
- LING 205 - Phonetics
- One of LING 308, LING 309, or LING 310
- Two other courses in Linguistics 300 or 400 level.
The Faculty of Arts requires that ★6 must be at the 300- or 400-level.
