The Medical Laboratory Science Program is coordinated through the Division of Medical Laboratory Science. This is a three year program at the University of Alberta with students admitted to the program after a minimum of one pre-professional year. Students graduate with a B.Sc. (MLS) and gain professional certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science. During the program students learn the theory and practice of the medical laboratory science including clinical chemistry, histotechnology, clinical microbiology, hematology and transfusion science. There are opportunities to undertake a research project as part of the Honors in Research program. Faculty in the Division of Medical Laboratory Science are involved in both the didactic education and clinical training in the program, but also have interests in educational and basic science research.
