Over 270 fitness fanatics broke in the Dome at Foote Field on Saturday morning in the only way the Edmonton fitness community knows how to - with enthusiasm, hard work, sweat, smiles and high fives.
Obstacle Fitness - a fitness event hosted by Campus & Community Recreation Fitness team, Fitset and River City Fitness - saw approximately 275 people come in from the cold to an hour of group fitness. Working with tires, "javelins", hula hoops, and dip bars the group focused on primal movements.
"The Fitness Industry has evolved from our days of synchronized high knees," says Naissa Preston, Program Coordinator with the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. "There is an emphasis towards building on the foundations of movement with large range-of-motion, multi-joint, coordinated fundamental patterns. We are encouraging people to play like kids and to achieve that childlike athletic functionality again."
"The Fitness community came together this Saturday! In the spirit of 'if you build it they will come', The Dome opens up the possibilities of more frequent "Fitness Parties", and I for one can't wait to see what we can do next!"
