Instructional Fees

Graduate instructional fees differ for Canadian and international students; they also vary according to the date of admission and the type of program (course-based or thesis-based). To determine your instructional fees for the 2023-24 academic year, locate your registration status, admission date and program type in the lists below. On this website, we provide fee estimates for your information; your actual fee assessments are available on Bear Tracks after you register.

Please note that it is not possible to include fee information for all programs or courses here, as some have a non-standard fee structure. If you are unsure about your program's fee structure, please consult your department (this non-standard fees list, while helpful, may not be comprehensive).

The fees listed on this page also do not apply to students admitted to their current program prior to Fall 2011. If this applies to you, please contact gradfees@ualberta.ca for more information.

Note that it is very important to check your Bear Tracks account regularly. Due to system configuration and changes, student fees may be recalculated throughout the term. Please notify gradfees@ualberta.ca as soon as possible if you are concerned about your fee assessment being either too high or too low in value.

Finally, please note that in addition to paying instructional fees, students must also pay non-instructional fees (most of them mandatory). For information on non-instructional fees, visit here.

Research 900 (for Visiting Graduate Students)

Research 900 (RSCH 900) is offered as a course registration for visiting graduate students who are registered at another academic institution and who will be conducting research only at the University of Alberta under the supervision of a UofA faculty member, but will not be taking UAlberta courses.

Research 900 students must be continuously registered for each term they are on campus (ie. each Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer term) to maintain their student status and campus privileges.

Note: Visiting Graduate Students in RSCH 900 in Fall or Winter terms may opt into the GSA Health and Dental plan offered by Studentcare Networks. Contact Studentcare Networks for details.
