Who was your community partner and can you describe the project objectives?
My partner was the Centre for Global Education. This organization focuses on raising awareness on global issues and encourages youth to take action that impacts their local and global communities. My focus was to connect with youth and educators to facilitate engagement in a variety of activities as well as help prepare for and contribute to virtual presentations on important issues such as climate change, Black History Month, and Canadian Mental Health Week.
What was your biggest takeaway from your CSL placement?
I learned that there are a lot of ways youth can be involved in making change and their voice can have a huge impact.
How can you apply any newly gained knowledge/skills to your future endeavours (courses/employment/volunteering)?
I have learnt a lot about some big and important issues the world is facing and how to include these issues in the curriculum in a meaningful way to really engage students and help them make a difference.
