Funding Opportunities

Students have access to various funding opportunities to support their engagement in CSL activities. 

 CEWIL STUDENT EQUITY AWARD

With support from the Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL Canada) and the Canadian federal government, CSL is awarding up to 300 students $1000 each for successful participation in an official CSL course in Fall 2024 (see detailed course list in Application Form). 

*Students will be notified by the end of October 2024, and funding will be dispersed by the beginning of December 2024. 

Awards are potentially available for students from the following equity-deserving backgrounds or identities: 

  • You are Indigenous;
  • You identify as a Black student;
  • You identify as a Racialized Canadian;
  • You are a newcomer to Canada (within 5 years);
  • You are registered with UAlberta’s Accessibility Services for Academic Support, and/or receive government assistance for study due to disability;
  • You are from a rural background;
  • You identify as LGBTQ+;
  • You are from an official language minority community (Anglophones in Quebec and Francophones outside of Quebec);
  • You are a female-identifying woman non-binary persons studying STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) ;
  • You are low income.

ELIGIBILITY: 

For the purposes of this funding students must meet all of the following criteria: 

  • registered students in PSE institutions, with no age limit; 
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 

*NOTE: International students with student visas or work visas are not eligible to receive funding.

COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING STUDENT AWARD

Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in any Faculty who has completed a minimum of two community service-learning (CSL) courses (6 credits). Selection based on academic standing and indicated financial need. Preference given to a student participating in the CSL Certificate program or a CSL approved non-credit opportunity.

LYNN MORGAN SCHOLARSHIP IN COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING

The Lynn Morgan Scholarship is awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree who has taken a minimum of two Community Service-Learning (CSL) courses or one CSL course and the non-profit board internship. Selection based on outstanding community service demonstrated through involvement in the CSL program, other voluntary work, and academic standing. Preference is given to a student participating in the Certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning. Value: $500.
