Katja Mueller
Bachelor of Science, Human Ecology, CTMC, 3rd year
Course: HECOL 301 (Fall 2022) with Instructor Deanna Williamson
Who was your community partner and can you describe the project objectives?
My group had the opportunity to work with Africans and African Descendant Friendship Club of St. Albert (AADFC). Our program plan was focused on empowering and encouraging participants in the preservation and celebration of the African and African Caribbean community in St. Albert, preparing participants to be effective volunteers at AADFC events, and motivating and inspiring participants to share their culture with others.
What was your biggest takeaway from your CSL placement?
Understanding program participants is integral to program planning, as it ensures that the program is built based on the participants, not the assumptions of the planner. This in turn makes a program of greater relevance and increases the likelihood of positive outcomes.
How can you apply any newly gained knowledge/skills to your future endeavours (courses/employment/volunteering)?
This course allowed me to gain confidence and competence in program planning and evaluation, which I will be applying to my work with student groups on campus and beyond!
