Join the UAlberta Museums and Dr. Isabel Pifen Chueh, Curator of the Mactaggart Art Collection, this Lunar New Year to discover dragon patterns in the Mactaggart Art Collection and the exhibition Dragons on the Tibetan Plateau.

Demystifying Dragons dives into the details of dragon patterns. Used as a symbol of power during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, dragon patterns on textiles were highly valued. Due to their value, they were also highly regulated by the Imperial Court.

This lecture will explore the variations of dragon patterns found in the Mactaggart Art Collection and discuss the social structure around which these designs were worn.
