Mark KrugerSenior Fellow, Yicai Research Institute, the Centre for International Governance Innovation, The China Institute at the University of Alberta Based in Shanghai, Mark Kruger holds Senior Fellow appointments at the Yicai Research Institute, the Centre for International Governance Innovation as well as the China Institute. Between 2020 and 2023, Mark was the Opinion Editor at Yicai Global. Previously, he had a 30-year career with the Bank of Canada in the course of which he served as a Senior Advisor to the Canadian Executive Director at the IMF and as the head of the Economic and Financial Section of the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. He began his career at the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission. |

Paul JenkinsSenior Fellow, C.D. Howe Institute Paul received his M.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in England and his B.A. in economics from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. From 2003 to 2010, Paul served as senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada. He was the Bank’s chief operating officer and a member of its board of directors. His duties included overseeing strategic planning, the conduct of monetary policy as a member of the Bank’s governing council and participating in fulfilling the Bank’s responsibilities for promoting financial stability. |

Philippe RheaultDirector, The China Institute at the University of Alberta L. Philippe Rheault is the Director of The China Institute at the University of Alberta, following a 25-year career in the Canadian foreign service with a primary focus on China and East Asia. He has been posted to the region six times: Beijing, Taipei, Chongqing (twice), Mongolia, and Guangzhou. Notably, he led two of Canada's missions in Mainland China: as the inaugural Consul General in Chongqing from 2012 to 2017 and, most recently, as the Consul General of Canada for South China based in Guangzhou (Canton) from 2019 to 2023. |
