Maryam Razavy holds an M.A. in Religious Studies and a PhD jointly in Sociology and Religious Studies from the University of Alberta. She lectures primarily in the area of Contemporary Islam, and Religion and Violence. Her current areas of research include religious violence, faith/culture and education, religion and law in Canada, and religious/cultural health and healing. Maryam also sits on the board of the Canadian Multicultural and Education Foundation, and is a member of the Opening the Potential mentorship program with the City of Edmonton, under Mayor Don Iveson. Currently, Maryam is working together with Dr. Earle Waugh (Center for Cultural Health and Healing, University of Alberta) on a Covenant Health funded research project focusing on Islam and healthcare access in Edmonton.
