First Conference of the Ukrainian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies: “Eighteenth-Century Studies: Ukrainian and Global Perspectives”

23-25 червня 2021 року в УКУ відбудеться міжнародна наукова конференція «Вісімнадцяте століття: українська і глобальна перспектива». Конференція організована кафедрою історії УКУ у співпраці з Українським товариством з дослідження XVIII ст., Центром українських історичних досліджень імені Петра Яцика Канадського інституту українських студій та Інститутом Вірса автрійських і центральноєвропейських студій Альбертського університету.

Ця конференція має на меті розглянути нові підходи до вивчення XVIII століття, здійснити переоцінку усталених наративів і концепцій та вписати Україну XVIII століття у ширший східноєвропейський та всесвітній контекст. Завданням конференції є підтримка та стимулювання інтересу до вивчення цього періоду, а також створення міждисциплінарного майданчику для зустрічей  та дискусій з широкого кола питань, пов’язаних з історією, культурою і літературою XVIII століття в Україні, Європі та світі в цілому.

У конференції візьмуть участь більше 150 науковців з 10 країн. Лекторами на пленарних засіданнях виступлять Пенелопа Корфілд, професорка Лондонського університету і президентка Міжнародного товариства з дослідження XVIII ст., та Зенон Когут, професор історії Альбертського університету. Конференція відбудеться у віртуальному форматі. Доповідачі і модератори панелей візьмуть участь в конференції через Zoom. Для загальної публіки окремі засідання конференції (відкриття, дві головні лекції, пленарна панель, а також панелі 1 і 18) будуть транслюватись на youtube-каналі УКУ. The first conference of the Ukrainian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies "Eighteenth-Century Studies: Ukrainian and Global Perspectives" will be held on June 23-25 at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv). The conference is organized by the Ukrainian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies in cooperation with the Department of History, Ukrainian Catholic University, the Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research, Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, and the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies, the University of Alberta.

This conference aims to consider a shift in attitudes towards the eighteenth century, re-assess the established narratives and concepts, and entwine eighteenth-century Ukraine into the broader East European and global context. It also aims to stimulate eighteenth-century studies and initiate a forum for scholars across a range of disciplines to meet regularly and to engage in discussions on a variety of topics related to the history and literature of Ukraine, Europe, and the wider world of the period. 

More than 150 scholars from 10 countries will take part in the conference. Confirmed keynote speakers are Penelope Corfield, President of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and Zenon Kohut, Emeritus Professor of History, University of Alberta. 

The conference will take place in virtual format. Speakers and session leaders at the conference will take part through ZOOM. For the general public selected events of the conference (Welcoming Address, two Keynote Lectures, Plenary Session, Panels 1 and 18) will be on livestream youtube of the Ukrainian Catholic University.
