Orvieto, Italy

Travelling outside of Canada opened my eyes to so many different ways of life and cultures I wouldn’t experience here. Specifically the small towns such as Orvieto, their confined and isolated nature brings such an authentic experience that have changed how I view the world around me.

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

My friend and I spent a day sailing around the Phi Phi Islands in a longtail boat. This little boat showed us the beauty of Koh Phi Phi both above and beneath the water. We strolled the sandy beaches and swam in the lagoons. I didn’t know that I could swim for so long without taking a break. We thank Wut, our tour guide, for welcoming us onto his boat and helping us create some of our most treasured memories.

Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

My wife and I travelled to Australia for our honeymoon, and it was three weeks of travel and a lifetime of memories. Among our very favourite places was the Gold Coast in Australia. This photo was from our first night there. From the most beautiful beaches, to a vibrant and lively city on the ocean, it was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and will always be such a special place for us.

To accumulate lasting memories through the pursuit of things that take us outside our comfort zone. To experience life in a way that only happens once you leave home.

Ijen Crater-Indonesia

Before I moved to Canada, I went to explore Indonesia once again. I found myself here in Ijen Crater, overlooking the view and thought to myself "How Great is Our God" for blessing us with his magnificent creations!

Songyang, Zhejiang Province, China

Last summer I had the opportunity to travel to a small town in eastern China, Songyang. It allowed me to take a break from my busy work and study life and experience a completely different way of life. The quiet and poetic nature of this ancient town and the peaceful lifestyle of its residents shows the diversity of perspectives on life.

Nassau, Bahamas

In the Bahamas, I delved into a whole new cultural dynamic. This photo marked my arrival in Nassau, where a taxi driver later gave us a tour of the city. Unlike the captivating scenery captured here, he showcased the authentic Nassau and its locals. We saw schoolchildren in uniforms leaving classes as we waved to locals sitting by bright-coloured homes. This immersive experience showed reality in a popular destination, unveiling their traditional lifestyle. I believe travelling allows for cultural appreciation by exposing individuals to diverse ways of life and Nassau's depth of community closeness furthered my gratitude towards their worldview.

In Zhoushan, China, amidst the bustling cityscape, a lone fisherman casts his line, enveloped in quietude. Unfazed by the constant flux of passersby, he embodies harmony in simplicity. The stillness mirrors a deep, internal calm—a serene dance between man and nature.

A Serendipitous Encounter
Sonya Lalani, MBA 2024
Lisse, Netherlands

Traveling serves as my escape, offering a chance to liberate myself from the mundane routines of everyday life. In my daily routine, I maintain a disciplined and rigid structure. However, traveling also serves as a reminder that not everything is within my control and that plans don't always unfold as expected. As a creature of habit, it encourages me to embrace spontaneity and adaptability, fostering personal growth and resilience in the face of unexpected challenges. Ultimately, traveling rejuvenates my spirit and renews my appreciation for the diversity and unpredictability of life.
