Application + Eligibility
All IVSP students are required to take English for Academic Purposes Courses at the start of their program.
Program Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the IVSP, students must be registered in a degree program in a university outside of Canada and must have written consent from their university to participate in the program.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
Students must present one of the following minimum English Language Proficiency test scores to be eligible for the IVSP:
- IELTS Academic score of 5.0+, with band score of 4.5+
- TOEFL iBT score of 40+, with 12+ on each band
- Duolingo English Test score of 80+, with band score of 65+
IVSP PROGRAM DATES & DEADLINES
Applicants may be required to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa and/or a Study Permit prior to entering Canada and these application processing times fluctuate regularly. Applicants are encouraged to apply for their desired study plan earlier than the posted "Apply by" dates to ensure that they will have time to complete any required immigration applications.

Students who are admitted to the program will be provided with a more comprehensive list of dates. Students applying for a campus residence must submit their program and residence application before April 30 to be guaranteed a residence assignment for September.

All fees are estimated and subject to change. An official tuition estimate will be provided at the time of admission for immigration purposes.
- $125 CAD IVSP Application Fee
- $25 CAD Residence Application Fee
- Mandatory non-instructional fees, including transportation, health insurance, and athletics and recreation, are additional and estimated at $990 per four-month term.
Tuition costs can be reduced by adjusting course load or by auditing academic courses.
Additional academic courses are $3189.54 per course.
Living expenses are estimated at $1300 per month including shared accommodation.

Cancellation and Refund Policies
Applications must be cancelled in writing prior to the first day of the first required English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in order for the IVSP Program fee to be cancelled in full.
The University of Alberta application fee, Residence Application Fee, and Homestay Placement Fee are non-refundable.
After the required EAP course commences, students who withdraw from the program are subject to standard University of Alberta refund policies.
