Dr. Lorne Zelyck, who teaches Bible courses at SJC, spent the 2017-18 academic year in Germany as the recipient of a prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship. Dr. Zelyck spent the year working on a commentary on the Egerton Gospel, one of the earliest Apocryphal Gospels (which are not included in the canon of the New Testament). There are four fragmentary remains of the Egerton Gospel, three in the British Library in London and one at the University of Cologne in Germany.
During his time in Europe, Dr. Zelyck presented conference papers in Berlin, Oxford, Regensburg and Helsinki. His book on the Egerton Gospel is almost finished and will soon be published in Brill's series "Texts and Editions for New Testament Studies." In addition to researching and writing, Dr. Zelyck and his family greatly enjoyed their experience of German culture. In other news, Dr. Zelyck, who has been with the college since 2012 as a contract instructor position, has been appointed a tenure-track Assistant Professor.
