Postgraduate Medical Education
The Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) operates within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. We represent postgraduate medical education at the University of Alberta through residency and fellowship programs.
PGME oversees more than 60 residency training programs within the University. Each of these high-quality clinical training programs is approved by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Completion of a residency program prepares medical residents for RCPSC and CFPC certification, one of the requirements for obtaining a license to practice medicine in Alberta.
PGME also offers a variety of clinical and research fellowship programs to those who have completed Canadian certification. Residency and fellowship training programs are also available to physicians from other countries.
Albertans who have graduated from medical schools outside Canada or the United States who wish to practice medicine may apply to the Alberta International Medical Graduate Program (AIMG).
