A number of different projects are currently planned or underway within the Henry Marshall Tory Building:
Classroom renovations
Estimated project completion: Summer 2024
Through funding through the Student Experience Action Plan, three classrooms are being renovated to provide more accessible learning environments on campus. Work will include leveling the tiers to improve accessibility, installing new lighting, and updating furniture. Approximately 20 additional seats will also be added across the three classrooms to increase capacity.
Renovating these classrooms helps the university to maximize the usage, efficiency, quality and utility of its current spaces, ensuring they are functioning at full capacity and meeting today’s standards of technology, interdisciplinary learning and leading-edge education.
Atrium modernization
Estimated project completion: Spring 2025
Renovation work in the Atrium, includes replacement of skylight windows as well as upgrades to the interior finishes, providing students a fresh and modern student social and study space. The design team was tasked with developing concepts for a variety of seating arrangements to facilitate independent and group study and socializing.
The new flooring concept envisions two softly contrasting light grey tile colorways which gently define the main circulation paths from the space to linger and stay awhile. A 12x24” format tile has been selected to help manage costs as well as future maintenance and replacement needs. Lighter tones will help to brighten the space
The furniture selection will allow a variety of groupings of 1 to 4 people for both independent and study groupings. The furniture is a mix of lounge and dining style hard seating in a variety of conventional and organic shapes to soften the space visually and acoustically.
This modernization effort will impact accessibility in the area during the renovation period.
Tory - building mechanical upgrades continue
Estimated project completion: Spring 2025
Mechanical upgrades have been ongoing in the building since 2020. The tower perimeter induction units were upgraded followed by the installation of ceilings, chilled beams, radiation panels and new lights on levels; basement, level 1 and level 2, this work was completed in September 2023.
The mechanical upgrade work will continue on level 3 with new T-Bar ceilings including upgraded lighting, chilled beams and radiant panels as well as new flooring in the corridors and select rooms.
