Education and affiliations

I am a research assistant at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw (Chair of Microeconomics) and a PhD student of the “Quantitative Psychology and Economics” program at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School at the University of Warsaw. I hold a master’s degree in Economics (2020) and an interdepartmental bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management (2018), both granted by the University of Warsaw. I also studied in Italy with Erasmus+: at the University of Cagliari (2018) and Alma Mater Studiorum in Bologna (2019-2020). At the latter I took courses offered within the “GIOCA – Innovation and Organization of Culture and the Arts” master’s program.

Currently, I am a visiting doctoral research fellow at the University of Alberta (2022-2023) funded by the Wirth Institute and hosted by prof. Vic Adamowicz from the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology.

Research

My PhD thesis is focused on the non-market valuation of cultural goods. The research is aimed at developing a methodological framework that would increase the contribution of economics to the design and analysis of cultural policies. I lead the project “Utilizing stated-preference based valuation methods for cultural heritage management: conservation vs. adaptive re-use of immovable objects” funded by the Polish National Science Centre. The project aims to strengthen participatory methods to involve the public in heritage decisions.

Even though my research focuses on cultural economics, I have also worked on projects related to other fields of applied microeconomics, including attention, environmental and health economics (more). I am particularly interested in learning people’s preferences towards appearance and uses of their physical surroundings understood as an inseparable link between built and natural settings and affected by the socio-cultural milieu.

Teaching

I have gained didactic experience teaching Microeconomics and Cultural Economics courses at the University of Warsaw and the Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw (2021-2022). I have also organized and moderated several meetings with cultural practitioners aimed at facilitating contact between scholars, students and the job market.

Other activities

I have presented the empirical results of my research at numerous international conferences organized by top economic associations in Europe and North America (more).

In 2021, I co-initiated the creation of the Polish chapter of the ACEI – Association for Cultural Economics International and since then I have been performing the role of the Association Secretary. As part of my outreach activities, I co-organized the 1st Polish Conference of Cultural Economics (2022) aimed at mapping quantitative cultural studies in Poland, and provided an invited talk on evaluation methods during the training course for heritage professionals (WalkEur Project) co-funded by the Creative Europe Program of the EU (2022).

When not engaged in academic activities, I enjoy all manner of outdoor pursuits, especially those that bring together breathtaking views, fresh air and a good workout: mountaineering, kayaking, x-country running and skiing, among others. I advocate travelling at a gentler pace (e.g. camping, backpacking) which makes the connection with the environment a more meaningful experience.
