Nada Kujundžić, PhD candidate at the University of Zagreb (Zagreb, Croatia), and the University of Turku (Turku, Finland)
After graduating from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (University of Zagreb) with a degree in Comparative Literature, and English Language and Literature, I spent some time teaching English to young learners, before deciding to pursue an academic career. I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Zagreb (doctoral programme in literature, performance arts, film, and culture) and the University of Turku (Faculty of Humanities, Department of Folkloristics).
The topic of my doctoral thesis is narrative space in Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's collection of stories Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Children's and Household Tales, 1812/15 - 1857). I am interested in how space is constructed in the various genres included in the Grimms' collection (primary focus being on fairy tales), its function and relationship to characters.
My research interests also include children's literature, contemporary fairy-tale adaptations (especially cinematic ones), narratology, popular culture, and women's writing. In addition to scholarly articles (published in various Croatian and international journals and edited collections), I write book reviews of children's fiction and scholarly publications. I am a junior editor of Libri et Liberi - Journal of Research on Children's Literature and Culture, and board member of the Young Scholars Working Group (part of the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore). I have collaborated on several fairy-tale-themed projects.
