NEW Medical and General Illness Leave Process: What You Need to Know
4 September 2024
A process improvement delivered by Shared Services and HRHSE, and facilitated by CASIP.
Effective September 1, 2024, the task of keying in new cases of medical and general illness leave requests in PeopleSoft has shifted from supervisors and managers to Shared Services. This change is applicable for NASA staff following 10 consecutive illness days. (Below 10 days would remain the responsibility of the employee.)
(The process was piloted in a number of faculties and administrative units over the past five months.)
How will this change benefit supervisors/managers?
With Shared Services and HRHSE providing increased support (time entry; access to information; case management), there will be reduced administrative burden on supervisors and managers. Revised checklists, guides and supporting materials will also help clarify roles and responsibilities while an employee is on a medical/general illness leave.
What is the purpose of the change?
This change is part of a larger endeavor to improve the overall management of leave entitlements, ensure better communication between impacted parties and to review how general illness time is entered and how vacation entitlements are managed during leave.
Key Takeaways:
While the task of keying in new cases of medical and general illness leave requests in PeopleSoft has shifted to Shared Services, supervisors/managers will continue to take important steps and support employees requesting medical or general illness leave.
Employees are still expected to provide timely and accurate information about their situation.
All parties should review the updated information on the medical and general illness leave process:
