Steering Committee
Our Enterprise Risk Management Steering Committee (ERMC) is critical to the success of the overall ERM Program. Composed of representatives from across the university, known as Risk Champions, these members support the President’s Executive Committee-Strategic (PEC-S), composed of the Senior Executive Team, by implementing, maintaining, monitoring, promoting and coordinating the ERM Program for their respective PEC-S executive leader.
It’s imperative that these Risk Champions work collaboratively with the ERM department and the area they are representing, ensuring there is a two way flow of information. The ERMC member is responsible for sharing information about the ERM Program and specific risks pertinent to their area in order to assist the university in managing risk. The employees in that area are responsible for identifying risks, including positive ones (opportunities), and managing them within their roles and responsibilities. They would escalate situations when required (i.e., cannot mitigate risk within appetite, require collaboration with other areas, etc.) to their direct managers and respective ERMC member if it impacts the top institutional risks and/or if they would like advice/support in managing a risk.
For more information on the key roles and responsibilities of the ERMC, please refer to page 20 of the framework.
