Education
Program Overview
The Surgery Bootcamp will be a 3-day training program designed to introduce students interested in surgery to the diverse facets of surgical science through a hands-on focused approach. Each day unfolds with a focus on different topics, offering a comprehensive understanding of this dynamic field:
Day 1: Understanding Patient Assessment
Explore the process of patient assessment and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) commonly used in medical education. Engage in interactive sessions and simulations to gain insights into the initial stages of surgical care and the importance of effective communication skills.
Day 2: Hands-on Surgical Practice
Dive into hands-on training in basic surgical techniques. Under the guidance of surgical residents, practice suturing, knot tying, and other fundamental skills required in surgical procedures. This interactive session will help develop a basic understanding of surgical techniques.
Day 3: Principles of Aseptic Techniques in Operating Room
Step into a simulated operating room environment at the RRSMRI and learn about aseptic techniques employed to maintain a sterile surgical environment. Observe simulated surgical procedures and interact with surgical staff to understand the roles and responsibilities within the operating room.
