RURAL SURGICAL AND OBSTETRICAL NETWORKS OF ALBERTA (RSONA)
With rural surgical and obstetrical services totaling over 70,000/yr combined with a risk of provider attrition and service closure, the OGS has collaborated with multiple organizations to develop a networked system to support rural surgical and obstetrical programs.
GLOBAL INJURY VISUALIZATION AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SURVEILLANCE (GIVES) PLATFORM
There are about 5.8 million deaths each year due to traumatic injuries. Of which, 90% come from LMICs. GIVES aims to advocate for a sustainable unified and harmonized concept dictionary for registries to utilize, and using this dictionary, create an open access, collaborative, online global injury surveillance platform with geographic information system capabilities.
NEW EDMONTON CERVICAL SPINE BOARD (NECs BOARD) PILOT IN LOW RESOURCE SETTINGS
Neurosurgeon, Dr. Richard Fox developed an innovative, novel easy to use, portable and affordable spine board to stabilize and apply traction early on after a spinal cord injury. The OGS is working with Dr. Fox’s team to pilot the NECs Board in rural Alberta and LMICs.
SUDAN MEDICAL SPECIALIZATION BOARD (SMSB) PARTNERSHIP
UofA’s partnership with the Sudan Medical Specialization Board will focus on enhancing education and training in surgery and all affiliated departments and divisions of health care in the Sudan and North-East Africa. To provide a sustainable and safe method of training and continual mentorship, the OGS and SMSB have incorporated in-person training and remote methods for communication and interaction for mentorship.
MOI TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL (MTRH) PARTNERSHIP
An affiliated team with the OGS from the Division of Otolaryngology have partnered with Kenyan counterparts from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) improve access to head and neck medical and surgical care for Western Kenya.
