Speech-Language Pathologist
Amanda began as a Speech Language Pathologist with the Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research (ISTAR) in May 2024. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders at Minot State University in 2016, before earning her Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology from the University of South Dakota in 2018.
During her graduate work, she completed externships in Washington state working in the schools and rehabilitation hospital settings with children and adults. Following graduation, she pursued a Clinical Fellowship in the schools near Tacoma, Washington, before returning to Canada in the fall of 2019. Amanda is originally from Saskatchewan, but chose to move to Alberta, where she worked in the public schools for 3 years before transitioning to private practice in 2022. She has worked with children and adolescents with a variety of communication needs including autism, AAC, speech and language disorders, and hearing loss. She appreciates the scope of practice for Speech Language Pathologists. When the opportunity came up to work with ISTAR, Amanda was inspired to continue to expand her skill set supporting individuals who stutter and their families with the ISTAR Calgary office.
Amanda has completed training or holds certifications in the following areas:
- Lidcombe Program for preschool and school age children
- Palin Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for Early Childhood Stuttering (Palin PCI)
- Comprehensive Stuttering Program (CSP)
- Play based therapy for children
- TouchChat AAC program
- Certificate of Clinical Competence with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association
