Student Placements
As an academic centre, The Steadward Centre provides a diverse range of learning opportunities and volunteer experiences across all our program areas, supporting students in the areas of kinesiology, physical education, recreation, science, nursing, rehabilitation medicine and coaching. Students develop skills, put learning to practice and learn from members of the disability community to support their future careers in the area of sport, recreation and fitness.
Each year, we support students in a wide variety of learning experiences across the centre:
Volunteer Placements
- Students can request to volunteer within any of our four program areas.
- Volunteers will gain valuable experience in Adapted Physical Activity and Para Sport.
- A general volunteer training session and program-specific training will be provided.
Professional Practicum Placements
- Undergraduate students studying in related fields such as kinesiology, physical education and recreation can apply to complete professional practicum placements with TSC as part of their bachelor's degree requirements.
- Students will complete 14 weeks of applied work experience in Adapted Physical Activity.
Community Service Learning (CSL) Credits
- CSL placements integrate community-based experiences into the course curriculum and encourage students to apply course material in new situations.
- As a designated CSL partner, The Steadward Centre has supported students in courses such as KIN 471, KIN 472, CSL 100, MARK 455/655, and HECOL 301.
