Adopt an Athlete
In 1985, the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation developed the Adopt-An-Athlete Program to provide financial assistance for its varsity sports programs.
This financial aid is key to the continuation of sports excellence at the University of Alberta and assists today&s motivated and talented student-athletes in their journey to become tomorrow's leaders.
Being a student-athlete at the University of Alberta requires a significant amount of dedication both academically and athletically. With an average of approximately 17 hours per week dedicated to training in addition to being full-time students, most student-athletes suffer the financial strain of not having the time to engage in part-time jobs, which makes it difficult for them to pay the expenses associated with playing competitive sports.
The Adopt-An-Athlete Program provides essential support for Golden Bears and Pandas teams. It provides an avenue for alumni, donors, friends and family who wish to be involved in the lives of our diligent student-athletes. It has also provided a link for Golden Bears and Pandas athletes and coaches to the broader community.
With your contributions, we can continue to assure an enduring legacy for Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics.
Play Around the World
This academic offering is designed to provide a global education and cross-cultural experience to University of Alberta students in the area of physical activity and play. Multi-disciplinary teams of senior-level undergraduate and graduate students form learning communities to work with agencies in Thailand and Cambodia that care for under-served populations. It costs $5500 to fund each student for this three-month engagement. While students engage in fund-raising activities themselves, we raise funds to assist their efforts.
Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation
Your gift will have an immediate, direct impact on our students, teachers, and researchers, and enhance, enrich and advance knowledge and discovery in physical education and recreation across the lifespan and abilities spectrum.
