The University of Alberta's Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine hosted the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence on Wednesday where he met with three groups receiving funding from the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund.
Cary Brown from the Department of Occupational Therapy was a recipient of this fund and shared about her study on testing hand self-Shiatsu-a pragmatic, no-cost, non-pharmacological form of sleep intervention. Recipients Lynn Perron from A New Dynamic Enterprise Inc. (ANDE) and Bonnie Klassen from Klassen Rehabilitation Consulting also attended the meeting.
"I am very impressed with the work these organizations have been doing with the funding they received from the Well-Being Fund," said MacAulay. "The programs and services they're developing are helping veterans manage chronic pain, creating transition retreats where veterans can make major gains in personal development, and offering non-pharmacological ways to live with occupational stress injuries and combat sleep deprivation-all of which are important steps forward for veterans and their families."
