Caitlin Hurd
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Rehabilitation Medicine
Caitlin has been involved in pre-clinical and clinical neurorehabilitation research and clinical practice as a physical therapist for a number of years. Pursuing her PhD in rehabilitation science was a great opportunity to combine clinical and research interests.
"I’ve learned the value of being a clinician-researcher when studying complex clinical questions because you’re able to combine the theoretical, research knowledge with ‘real-world’, clinical considerations."
Caitlin believes research is a collaborative effort and appreciates the great researchers she has worked and the opportunities provided working with organizations like Alberta Innovates and the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation through the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI).
Caitlin's advice for prospective students: "Go into the experience with an open mind. I had been involved in research for many years before pursuing my PhD, but the program, and specifically the other students, continually challenged me to be a better, more well-rounded researcher."
Caitlin is currently a postdoctoral fellow with the Neurosciences, Rehabilitation and Vision Strategic Clinical Network (NRV SCN) at Alberta Health Services (AHS).
