Geriatric Psychiatry Subspecialty Residency Program Call for Applications
On behalf of the Geriatric Psychiatry Resident Program Committee, I am pleased to announce that the Geriatric Psychiatry Subspecialty Residency Program at the University of Alberta received accreditation from the Royal College in September 2015. We are currently accepting applications for admission to the program to begin their first year of subspecialty training on July 1, 2023.
This is a two-year program with two funded positions available annually. During the PGY-5 year, residents meet the requirements of the General Psychiatry Program and the Subspecialty Program at the same time. The PGY-6 year is exclusively Subspecialty training and prepares residents for transition to fully independent practice. Typically, Psychiatry residents apply in their PGY-4 year and commence the program at the beginning of their PGY-5 year. There is flexibility to accommodate residents entering into the PGY-6 year. In these cases, we would need to review the application to ensure that the PGY-5 rotations meet the requirements of our program.
The application deadline for this year is September 1, 2022. We require a CV, Letter of Interest, 2 Letters of Reference and a letter of good standing from your program director. A sub-set of candidates are then chosen for interviews.
I would be happy to answer any questions and discuss the program further with any interested applicants.
