Information for Students
Students are at the heart of everything we do, and after hearing feedback through the Student Experience Action Plan, we're excited to announce the switch to a new Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Students use a LMS to manage their course materials, submit assignments, check their learning progress and more.
Moving to Canvas
Canvas offers enhanced accessibility, an intuitive mobile-friendly design and personalized learning tools and more. This change aligns with the U of A’s commitment to innovative learning, academic flexibility and a student-centered environment.
This transition will affect more than 60,000 students and instructors. To ensure a smooth transition, both Canvas and eClass will run in parallel through Fall 2025. By Fall 2025, eClass will be placed in read-only mode for all credit and non-credit courses. People will still have access to their course content in eClass (read-only) under the current archive policy. This allows for a phased transition to Canvas.
Students may have classes in both Canvas and eClass in Fall 2024. Instructors will let students know where courses are hosted, and students are encouraged to check both Canvas and eClass.
